One week down!!

We had a wonderful first week together, we learned a lot about each other and we will dive into our academics next week in full force.

This week, we learned all about the procedures in our class, we took a writing assessment and we learned about what kind of writing we will be doing each day, we shared special items from home that have unique meanings to them, we did 4 TRIBES activities, we logged into our Chrome books, we organized all of our materials and we started a read aloud titled, "Wonder." Ask your child about it!  We were also the first class to turn in ALL of our paperwork, so Mrs. Mackedon surprised us with free milkshake certificates from Jack in the Box! We celebrated 2 birthdays already as well! We also wrote in our parent journal for the first time, please make sure that you respond so they can bring it back on Monday.

It was a busy week, but the real work starts next week!  We will be starting our book clubs (we already received our book today), and we will start projects!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, thank you for sharing your children with me.

Thanks for coming!

Thanks so much to the parents who attended back to school night.  For those who could not make it, please come by the classroom before school Monday morning to sign their interned access agreement so your students can use their Chrome books.  If it is not signed, they will not have access to their computer until it is. also, I will have you take the paperwork out of their binder and leave it here with your student as we will be using them to get organized.

On a side note, but very important....your students will no longer have assignment notebooks.  They will be using their Google calendar to keep track of homework and due dates. They will have access to this calendar anywhere there is a computer with internet access from their Gmail account. They will be learning how to use it first thing, and will be proficient at it in no time!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Ready, set.....

Hope you are all ready, because I am all set!

Back to school night is Thursday so I sincerely hope to see you all here at Oasis.

We are in Mrs. Loop's old room, look for the blue door with the white and red lighthouse!

We will be going over the 5th grade expectations for the school year, as well as handing out the traditional white binder with the student handbook inside.  If you haven't begun to follow this blog yet, please take a minute to do so. It will save you time and hassle later!

Fifth grade is gonna rock that Bighorn Blue!

As the school year begins to creep in.....

Welcome to our 5th grade blog for Mrs. Mori! I am happy to be in contact with you.  If you are receiving this email and wish not to anymore as your child has moved up, check the bottom of your email and "unsubscribe." Then you can follow your new teacher's blog as well, which I highly recommend.

The supply list has been updated and our room is in the process of transformation. We are in Mrs. Loop's old room and it was very sad to see the castle come down! :(

Hope you have all made some wonderful summer memories, I am looking forward to our year together.

Much love,
Mrs.  Mori

Last Week

Well fifth grade families, this is it, the last week of school!  We have a few exciting happenings this week.  We will get yearbooks on Tuesday, attend 8th grade graduation on Wednesday, and have field day on Thursday.  Please check your email for details on each of these events, especially field day!  Plans are changing with the weather.

It's always hard for me to say goodbye.  I get attached to my students and wish the best for them!  It has been a wonderful year.  I have loved working with each student and family.  I hope you have a wonderful summer.  Please stop by my new Oasis classroom next year to say hello!

Project Presentations

Please come see our final Science project presentations. We have seven groups who will be presenting simultaneously in our classroom, much like the Native American project from earlier in the year.  You may go to each exhibit, or just see one or two groups.  The students have learned a lot about how the different spheres interact and they are excited to share their knowledge with you.  We are presenting on Wednesday, May 13, from 1:30 - 2:15 in our classroom.  Hope you can come see what we've learned.

In other classroom events, we are having end of the quarter auctions again, so please send in a few treats or snacks.  We have some students who have saved all year and they are excited to spend their hard-earned cash.  This is the last week for reading logs as a graded assignment.  It goes without saying that I hope your students will keep reading, even with no assignment to turn in!  We will write our last parent journal entry this week too.  These can come back on Monday for stickers and then they will go home to keep.  I hope you will enjoy having that record of your communication with your student.  Have a great week!

Project Building, Auctions, Supplies

We started building our projects today.  These days are always exciting, and a little crazy.  Thank you to those who sent in supplies.  The days are much smoother when every student has what he or she needs.  We will build Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.  There are, however, a few supplies needed in our classroom:  cleaning wipes and paper towels.  I went to the back to get more today and apparently that massive stash of cleaning wipes and paper towels from the beginning of the year is gone and we are out!  We have clay stuck to our tables with no cleaning wipes - a crisis for sure!  If anyone has a spare container or two of wipes or a few rolls of paper towels, please send them in.  That would be very helpful for our building tomorrow and as we finish up this year.  In addition to our Science project, the students need some building supplies for math.  Check with your student to see what is needed for that.

We are at the end of the year, but we will still be working and keeping to our routine as much as possible.  We will have a reading log for the next two weeks, but not on the last week of school.  We will do our end-of-the-quarter auctions in the classroom during the weeks of May 11 and May 18.  Please send in a few small treats or toy items to auction off.   Your students are really looking forward to this!  Have a great week and thank you for all you do to support your student in his or her learning.
